Barcelona will try until the last moment to sign another superstar forward this month
Following the retirement of Gerard Pique and the sale of Memphis Depay, Barcelona were hopeful that it would leave them with enough Financial Fair Play margin to rope in a new player.
However, various reports in Spain suggest that the feedback from La Liga over the Catalans’ Fair Play situation has not been positive and as things stand, Barça are not in a position to sign a new player before the January transfer window closes.
But according to Lluis Miguel Sanz of SPORT, Barcelona will try until the last moment of the transfer window to secure an attacking reinforcement even though it seems impossible at this moment to bring in a new player.
Having parted ways with Depay, the Catalans have an open slot in the attacking department which manager Xavi Hernandez is understood to be keen to fill.
Given the over-reliance on Robert Lewandowski for goals, the report states that Xavi wants to sign a versatile forward with a keen eye for a goal. The report even adds that there are several options on the table that the Catalans are considering.
However, the club’s low fair play margin makes it very difficult for them to bring in a player at this point.
But, the report adds that Barça are studying various options and possibilities to improve their situation. It is even stated that some important players would be willing to make an economic effort to move to Camp Nou, like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had done last January.
Right now, the possibility of making a new signing is minimal, but it is not completely ruled out and the situation remains open until the last minute, the report adds. If not signings, the Catalans will look to register the contracts of the likes of Ronald Araujo, Gavi and Inaki Pena.
