Real Madrid legend declares Lionel Messi the best ever

Real Madrid fans are not too fond of Lionel Messi. That is completely understandable, considering he played for their eternal rivals, Barcelona, for so many years and is their greatest ever player. At the same time though, nobody can deny what he has achieved in the game of football.

His crowning moment came last year, as he won the World Cup with Argentina, getting his hands on the only trophy that had eluded him for so many years. He was the best player at the tournament as well.

In the eyes of many, Messi’s World Cup triumph solidified his place as the greatest player of all-time. Of course, that debate will go on forever, and one cannot overlook other greats of the game like Pele and Diego Maradona.

But in the eyes of Real Madrid legend and current Paris Saint-Germain star, Sergio Ramos, it looks like Messi is the best ever. As reported by GOAL, he said in an interview with PSG TV:

“There was suffering for several years playing against Messi. I am now enjoying him. He is the best player football has ever produced.”

That is a fascinating take from Ramos for sure, especially considering the storied rivalry that the two had during their respective times in Spain.

Now though, they are teammates at PSG and it looks like that the rivalry is very much in the past and the two have only had positive things to say about each other.

Their journeys at PSG have been pretty similar as well. Both struggled in their first season at the club, but have rediscovered their form this season and are showing their quality, despite being in the twilight of their respective careers.

Of course, there will never be a definitive answer to who the greatest player ever is. Every generation is different and the game has evolved over the years. It must be said though that Messi is definitely up there.
